Today, was probably the first Saturday of 2010 that I had nothing on my iCal that absolutely had to be done. While many people embrace this situation, this situation freaks me out.
Friday after school I had to videochat Ellen and talk to Christina on the phone to discuss the 'antsy'-ness that I was feeling about Saturday. It's just unknown territory that I've rarely navigated.
Being the nice friends they are, Ellen invited me to DC while Christina invited me to Richmond. But, then still being the nice friends they are, they both renigged on their invitations so that I was forced to embrace a no-iCal day. That's some great friends there (half sarcasm/half no sarcasm). Both know that I'm trying to embrace relaxing times. It is a challenge to go from 200 MPH to you-pick-the-MPH.
Well, I grabbed the bull by the horn and went with it...and, you can remind me of this later...I loved it!
My Saturday included the gym, visiting the AGR Santa Breakfast to support Relay (and I saw so many friends), 2-hour breakfast with the nuclear family (all of this was before 11 AM ), making baked goods for a TA that just had a baby, wrapping Christmas gifts to Christmas music and a lit spruce-scented candle, shopping the lovely, classic Downtown, getting an invite from my Aunt for a free pedicure (I couldn't get out of Target fast enough), dinner with Married Kat and husband and my parents, and finally over the mountains and through the snowy woods to Coach B's house with Coach Schu in tow for the VT game and wine.
I was exhausted by the time I found my bed. And, yet, none of this was planned the day before. I loved being able to pick and choose what I did. Good News: I have a few more days cleared in December.
Today was refreshing and rejuvenating. I had so many great conversations and loved shooting the breeze. Today is a day that reminds me of why I love Culpeper and how important it is to love yourself.
Moral of the Story: Now only did can I say I made it in terms of surviving, but I made it in terms of creating the day.
