Yet, 4 are named David. My father, brother, D in cville, and D who is a teacher/realtor/DJ in Cpep.
David comes from Hebrew and means 'beloved' or 'friend.' That sounds about right. I'll just do simple math and describe all the Ds in my life as beloved friends.
I have known all the Ds for a few years or my whole life. They are strong, courageous, passionate, unselfish, disciplined, and conquering yet meek.
These traits are all characteristics of David from the Bible. He tended faithfully to his flock, outwitted Goliath, dueled King Saul, helped make Israel independent, and conquered Jerusalem.
He tended the sheep of his earthly father and that of his heavenly father.
1 Samuel 16:12-13
12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David.
Moral of the Story: Jesus is called the 'Son of David.' I'm called to me more like Jesus. Isn't it ironic that I have all these D's in my life as earthly father/friend role models?
