On My Bookshelf...

Since one of my three words for 2011 is to 'breathe', I have embraced trying to read.

I have 2 new strategies to accomplish this. Yes, I sound like a teacher.

  1. Read before I fall asleep. This could mean 60 minutes or 1 minute.
  2. Read a few books at a time.  I've always been committed to just one. But, why not a few? Whatever my mood, I have something to read.
I just finished reading these...

Lady in Waiting: Becoming God's Best While Waiting for Mr. Right
I was slightly skeptical about this book, that I received for Christmas. I really enjoyed it. It affirmed my life choices now and thoughts about relationships sprinkled with Biblical accounts.

Christmas Brides
2 books in 1. I just love Linda Lael Miller and how she has so many books that are in a series. Plus, this was great for Christmas, granted I just finished it a week ago.

Currently reading...
Vogue Knitting
I do want to move past knitting a scarf.

The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer
Takes me back to my college days, I need to be focused and sharp when reading this. It's a huge book which only reminds me how huge cancer is in this world. I'm chugging along in this one, but I'm definitely gaining knowledge.

The McKettrick Legend
2 books in 1. I go from the Biography to Cancer to another McKettrick series book, great one...the main character is a girl, usually it's one of the McKettrick guys. Light, fast, easy read.

Explaining Reading
Reading is not simple. It is very complex. This was a textbook from UVA. I always like refreshing my brain.

Close Encounters of the Third-Grade Kind
Nothing like a fun, easy, affirming read after a day in the classroom. Everything this guy writes about I immediately hear myself saying "yup" I've experienced that.
Message Remix: Solo

Granted this is not what I use for my Bible, because it is not a translation but it does put Bible phrases in contemporary language. I find it useful for loving on high schoolers and their faith journey.

Moral of the Story: I always saying I love teaching reading, just not doing it. Maybe, I'm turning a corner. Maybe.
