Eek. I know this is a cliche. And, it totally came out of my mouth tonight to one of my fav defenders from hockey and lax.
We lost tonight. By a goal. In double overtime. With 17 seconds to go.
Walking off the field. She held back tears. Walked right for me. She needed a hug. After a few minutes of game talk, I reassured her that 'life goes on.'
Yes, I know. Eek. Not the thing to say.
But, high schoolers need to know this. They live in funnel vision of a 'me' world. It's hard for them to taste or see a 'college' world or a 'career' world. So many have a focus on a now, rather than an eye on the future. I always had an eye on the future.
When I was in high school, I knew UVA was where I'd being going. I never doubted it. Some of these girls have no clue what lies ahead. That can be frightening.
And, isn't there one truth in life? it goes on?
High. Low. Rollercoaster. It goes on.
After such a close loss, many think the world is out to get them or live stinks.
It doesn't.
The bus came back and there was Mrs. A with her bundle of joy family watching the EV choir show. There was a Smart Cookie and her family. There was YLer, who used to have Mrs. A, asking if she could have an Anni hug because she really needed it. There was me stopping by the field and the AD saying 'tough day in the office.' There was Daddy announcing the soccer game and wanting a drink (go figure). There was Schu and I going to dinner. There was some relative of mine asking me about field hockey. There was my power cord from my brother. There is an SOL at 8 AM.
Life goes on.
Moral of the Story:The sooner one learns that life goes on, the more understanding of life they will have.

Yep. Life does go on but it is so much better with an Anni hug. 2 days. xo
