Wild Wednesdays

They have started. Ok, one has happened but we hope to make it a weekly thing for the summer.

Yes, I was born here. Yes, I grew up here. But, yes I went away for college. And, came back. And, it didn't mean I had friends (my age) here.

Most of my friends that went off to college, didn't come back. And, those that did stay in Cpep were so busy investing into starting their own families or building their careers. Ok, and let's be honest some of them haven't gotten a job nor pursued it. Golliday.

Well, just like in college. It has taken a good 2-3 years to build community.

And, man does it feel good.

Yes, I solidly lean on a core group of friends from UVA. Today, the one in Charlotte was kindly laminating things for my classroom from an idea we saw on Pinterest. The one in ATL was texting me about our AM workouts. The one in KnoxVegas wanted to know about my love life or anything in that domain of life. The one in Richmond needed to just vent to someone who you can just vent to.

These girls have helped define me and I couldn't be more thankful for the community that we established at UVA and have been able to uphold 3 years later.

Anyway, it was fun having friends over last night.

Once again, it was a formula that seems to help me thrive and others as well. We are all so different.

I was telling Momma that other day. "Give me someone with a personality and concrete views on life. And, I'm good to go. I can disagree with you but I'll respect you."

So, naturally, when a mother of a player I coach gave me cucumbers at practice the other day, I thought 2 things.

#1) I must make my Grams' cucumber salad. (Ok, Momma actually whipped it up.)

#2) Let's do face masks.

Wine, desserts, face masks, PJs, chick flicks, laughter, and cucumbers later...

Moral of the Story: It feels good to laugh and have friends.
