Family

This morning in church we had to pray in a small group. I'm open to the idea.

We had to share one thing we're thankful for...I blurted my family.

This weekend has been filled with family meals and this and that.

I don't think I take my family for granted. However, I do think I'm extremely comfortable in the fact that the 'raising and rearing' has been done. Now, the enjoying is taking place.

Yes, I still need guidance and help. But, I can host a meal now.

I was talking to my parents tonight about this. I think at times I feel guilty to celebrate the goodness of my family because I combat the effects of dysfunctional families more than I'd like to or should admit throughout the week.

(I mean I did catch my father climbing through the azalea bushes to get my gameday malt balls through the window to me this week. Or, my uncle & Momma carrying Gram's prized fake fruit and bowl into my house in the rain.)

A few things I love about my family...
  • no one freaks out.
  • we are so different.
  • we are so alike.
  • we laugh in all situations.
  • we eat in all situations.
  • we like reality tv. It makes us feel good about ourselves.
  • we celebrate one another.
  • we try to set each other up for success.
  • we're proud of each other.
  • we work...hard.
  • we don't enable.
  • we live our own lives...not ones prescribed to us from each other.
  • we leave each other alone.
  • we make sure to attend to the little moments.
  • my cousins and my brother and I have lives.
  • we treasure the past.
  • we share.
  • we are into antique furniture.
  • nostalgia is fun.
Moral of the Story: As Caroline from the Real Housewives of New Jersey says, "Friends come and go, family is always there."
