Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, means something different for every person who makes it or doesn't make it out to EV.
This I honor.
Whether the participant fundraises but can't make the weekend.
Whether the participant make the Opening Ceremony and Survivor's lap.
Whether the participant paints his/her body green for Superhero lap.
Whether the participant come out to teach Zumba.
Whether the participant has fundraised all year.
Whether the participant just started fundraising today.
Whether the participant stops by because they saw the stadium from 29.
Whether the participant was peer-pressured to be on a team.
Whether the participant has taken off work to be there.
Whether the participant was told that he/she was coming.
Whether the participant comes out for dinner.
Whether the participant comes to see the traditional Miss Womanless Pageant.
Whether the participant comes to ride his/her bike and to give a check donation.
Whether the participant comes for the luminaria ceremony.
Whether the participant comes to hang with friends.
Whether the participant is dancing barefoot and singing to his iPod at 3:20 AM.
Whether the participant comes to bring food for another.
Whether the participant comes out to judge an event.
Whether the participant volunteered to go pick up the 50 pizzas for midnight.
Whether the participant is the video man who puts down the camera to help us setup the pizza party.
Whether the participant is the video announcer who asks me if I have a key to the extra gator and he'd be happy to help transports team supplies to speed up clean up.
Whether the participant is exhausted.
Whether the participant is/was a caregiver.
Whether the participant is a Survivor.
Whether the participant is celebrating or remembering.
Whether the participant is fighting back...
We all come for different reasons to the Relay For Life weekend.
Moral of the Story: My hope is that some hope will shine and resound for a better future.
