I must admit. After starting my first year 3 weeks into school and the earthquake day last year, I'm decently relaxed when it comes to the first day of school.
I have simple goal: the kiddos make it home happy.
I appreciate more the little moments of all the dad's holding their kindergartener's hand while they waited outside for the doors to open. I'm pretty sure the dad's were holding tighter.
I appreciate the newness and the excitement of the opportunity to grow.
I appreciate that I forget that my students don't yet fully get my sense of humor and I'm found to be the only one laughing at my jokes.
I appreciate bathroom breaks more.
Some highlights included a kid who asked me if we were at King's Dominion? due to the background music of my iPod. Supposedly, my playlist is what's played near the water park. Who knew?
I was asked whether I was hispanic? I appreciate the comment which of course I grasped the teachable moment and discussed how we're American citizens with different backgrounds. My dad just happened to be visiting the classroom at that moment.
All in all, it was great day.
I was actually more concerned about some of the 8th grade babies who were heading to high school. But, they all made it to practice happy and cheerful that they didn't get lost in the big, big high school.
Moral of the Story: Must not have been too bad. Wild Wednesday kept it's tradition as we celebrated all of our first days of school.
