Portis

Guest Blogger, A's Mom

My sister, P, is doing well after her surgery yesterday  Thank you for your prayers.

Today, I want to introduce you to Portis, our granddog.

Portis is the one on the right with Bubba's bone,  Bubba
is on the left--he is my brother's dog.  They are at Bethany
Beach.  Bubba was so nice he was sharing his bone.

Portis is the sweetest dog--he is a pug and lab mix.  He is a rescue dog--our son adopted him when he was in college(Christopher Newport University).. Portis was a true man's dog (W says that since he came to live with me he has become a sissy) --he is named after Clinton Portis.  During our son's college years, Portis had his own easy chair and would lap up spilled beer during the Redskin games.  The first time that W brought Portis home, A and I were scared of him, but he was so sweet and loving that A, D, and I fell in love with him.  Portis loves to cuddle with A and I.

Our son and friend, S, took good care of Portis, but once I got a call from the animal service in Newport News.  W was away to a wedding and S had let Portis out.  He had gone next door and was kidnapped by a fraternity.  They released him the next morning and Portis was picked up on the street as a stray.  Thankfully, Portis had an ID disk and they called our vet in Culpeper.  The Culpeper Vet's office called me and said that Portis was under "arrest".   I called animal service in Newport News and explained the situation.  They were so nice and took him back home to W and S.  I had called A and she called S to warn him that I new that Portis was missing.  All turned out well and Portis has never been arrested since.

Portis was used to riding home with W from college--Rts. 64 and 95.  He would perch in the back window.  He still loves to ride.  D and I take him for a ride through Culpeper and couple of times a week.  He started traveling to the beach with our son and now travels with us to the beach.  He loves sitting in the back seat with his Aunt A.

When W graduated from college and worked in D. C., he was nice enough to let Portis come live with me.  He has let me keep him because I think he realizes that Portis is my surrogate W.  I don't have W or A at home anymore.  Portis is my surrogate child,  I talk to him all the time (he never talks back), he gets a bath every Saturday, D and I take him for a ride around Culpeper several times a week, he loves his tennis balls which W keeps him stocked with, and he goes on family vacations,

Our family dogs--Jetta-my sister's dog, Banco--A's dog, Bubba and Bingo--my brother's dogs, and Portis love being together at family gatherings.

Have a wonderful day and take care!
