There is just something about a superficial wound that makes it so painful.
Paper cuts. The roof of my mouth when I eat potato chips. A burn.
These are skin-deep wounds. But, they hurt.
And, yes, I know the science behind it. It's all about perception. There are more nerves in these sense-feeling areas of the body. Plus, these areas are also used most frequently. Plus, a small cut has a more focused area of pain.
But, come one, let's get a paper cut on my thigh. I probably wouldn't feel a thing.
Moral of the Story: These little cuts hurt.
