A President's Home, A President's Vineyard, the DC Airport

It was a gorgeous July Saturday in Virginia. The high was about 83 degrees, so it made being outside enjoyable not blistering.

The Farmer and I continued our trek of historical places. We went to Ash Lawn-Highland in Albemarle. It's the home of James Monroe. It left us confused...it's modest and just last month they figured out the front door entrance?

I loved the modest part, but at the same time it left us thinking. He lived there for 24 years. During that time, Monroe was the Governor of Virginia, colonel in the army, Secretary of State, Secretary of War,  President, and a Founding Father.  The guide explained he was never able to get the land to prosper so he never made money. The Farmer was quick to put in you have to be present daily to get it to work. Just think of your garden? or your outside plants?

I'm definitely glad we went. You should go. Ash Lawn stands in stark contrast to Monticello and Mount Vernon. Plus, there are very few tourists.

I always find it haunting that Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe passed away on July 4th.

To switch gears, we headed down the road to Jefferson Vineyard for a picnic.

Then, we headed up to DC to pick up the Williams B&B posse who were arriving from a meandering of Italy.

I was able to cross 'welcome someone like they do in Love Actually at the airport' off my bucket list.

Moral of the Story: It was a great day.
