I surrender...

I went to Sunday school this morning (yes, I went to school on a Sunday!). We are doing a study called "Where do I go now, God?" It is very interesting because I am in the Young Adult Sunday school which has the age range of 17-24. Needless-to-say, I'm practically the oldest and feel like mother hen.

We examined the connection between passion, ambition, and vocation today. It's really interesting. Some people immediately know their passion. Some people have to explore to find their passion (that was me). Some people never find their passion.

I think I was in the minority for having explored, discovered, and pursued my God-given dream. While the others (who are a few years younger), are naturally attempting to discover how utilize their passions. Just like a tool box with different tools for different purposes, God gave us various talents for various purposes. The passions in the room included writing, music, leading worship, nursing, firefighting, law enforcement, teaching, and numbers/accounting.

Anyway, hearing my new friends discuss the pursuit of their passions reminded me of first year at UVA when I was vacillating between medicine and education. I remember the moment God placed on my heart my passion and consequently my God-given dream. It was at a Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship retreat at Camp Friendship (lol) in the Fall. It was one of the most purifying moments of my life. Below, is the song during worship that I knew I was supposed to be a teacher.

Moral of the Story: To surrender may be hard, but after you surrender you are free.
