A Day Circled on the Calendar

Senior Night (10/2005) at CCHS

9/22/10...the day I coached against my Alma Mater-Culpeper County High.

I spent 5 years of my life playing hockey for CCHS. Exuding BDP. Buying wardrobe of yellow and blue. Doing this while doing that. Those years are some of my fondest memories. Dad coached there. My Grandma and Mom graduated from there.

Well, now I coach at EVHS (they built it when I was at UVA). Worth teaches there. Dad announces. And my old coach from CCHS coaches hockey there. Am I setting the scene?

Yup, CCHS and EVHS are sure rivalries. Raw and new. Since the seniors at EVHS went to 9th grade at CCHS.

It was weird to hear the other team referred to as Culpeper when that wasn't me. It was weird to not be yelling at the yellow/blue jerseys. Basically, it was a pot filled to the brim with similarities/differences all being boiled in a competitive environment.

Good News: Varsity won 2-1. (Varsity has yet to lose to CCHS in 3 years.) For the girls to run off and jump up and hug us, you can't beat pure happiness. It was close. Now, I can sigh. As long as Varsity win, we're good to go. Right?

Icing on the Cake News: JV won 2-1. With a beautiful goal with 5 minutes remaining, the girls dug deep and pulled it out. We couldn't have been happier. It was the first time in 3 years of EVHS that the JV won against CCHS. Yahooo!!!!

Moral of the Story: You don't forget where you came from, but you do move on while bringing lessons learned from the past.

So weird...I always hear myself saying "Show me Cyclone hockey ladies."

Captain Culpeper...seems like such a paradox

the Ol' Days of BDP
