Mardi Gras A Day Later

I do like Mardi Gras.  In college, one of my suitemates was from Louisiana. She introduced me to the traditions of Mardi Gras (not all of the 'flashy' traditions) but the 'foodie' traditions.

She ordered us all cups and we decorated masks. And, then, came the grand finale...the king cake. Her mom had shipped it to us. I was beyond excited to learn about the little baby inside. Of course, I wanted a piece with the little plastic surprise. I felt like I was at Knackel's getting a cupcake with a plastic ring on it. I didn't get the baby. But, I still was so intrigued.

So, today, The Farmer and I had some king cake downtown. There was no little baby. But, darn it was delish. And, made me very happy.

Moral of the Story: The King's Cake is actually part of Christian tradition in New Orleans. It's in honor of the wisemen who brought gifts to the Christ Child.
