That is a 4-word phrase that is the repeated mantra of a teacher. In October, once the newness of school has worn off you are officially allowed to think about it. After Christmas break, you start to smile when you think of it. After Spring Break, you begin to break out into a dance when you think about it. Once hits, you break out into a sweat and hives when you think about it.
Well, the last day came...it saw...it conquered.
Our desks were already snazzy clean. Book bags were no longer needed. Popsicle, lunch count sticks were gone. Thus, we watched a movie first thing which the kids thought was 'so cool.' Then, we watched a LONG Slideshow set to our Class Playlist. A few dance parties later, then we were off to lunch. We formed a 'compliment circle,' got our report cards, said our 'see you next years,' and we lined the halls to clap as the graduating 5th graders loaded the bus. Then, my new 4th graders/former 3rd graders loaded the bus as we sang 'na-na-na-na Goodbye' and waved as they left.
I truly was non-emotional. But, I think that comes as the daughter of 2 life-long educators. I know my purpose is to give my kids my all for a year and then left them fly. So, I look forwarding to seeing them around town in the future.
Moral of the Story:
A student:
"Ms. Richardson you're the best teacher in the whole universe. You know you have a zit right there, right?"
A card from a student: Thank you for being the best 2nd grade teacher ever!
A student's actions: A student 'painted' her toes with a red dry eraser to have her toes match mine.
