Nomadic Living

it's what I do, without fail.

Webster Dictionary defines 'nomadic' as "roaming about from place to place aimlessly, frequently, or without a fixed pattern of movement."
  • aimlessly? - no check
  • frequently - check +
  • without a fixed pattern of movement - check
I always know where I'm going and the purpose for my trek. On average, I 'trek' 1-2 times per week. During the school year, I went weeks taking a shower in a different bathroom every weekday (different work out places, not boys' places-gosh). I have a pseudo fixed pattern of movement. It usually involves 29 from Culpeper to Cville. I spice it up with adventure trips off of 29.

This week, I spent 2 days in DC...2 days in Raleigh...3 days in Cville...and 2 days in Cpep before heading back to Cville for at least 4 days. Then, a different cycle repeats.

How do you know you live a nomadic lifestyle? Where do you live? This question causes hesitation and makes me look like I may have lost half a brain. When you don't know how to answer where you live, then that's when you know you're officially a bona fide nomad.

I find this lifestyle particularly much more interesting. I selfishly get to choose what I experience. Some find it a precarious lifestyle, but isn't life precarious no-matter-how you live it? I love the feeling of living-in-the-now and the sense of freedom that accompanies nomadic living.

More importantly, I truly believe my relationships are much stronger. I enjoy getting to know the seasons of lives of the people I visit, sharing minutes of the day, and being guided by instinct while connected through trust.

Disclaimer: A posh nomadic lifestyle (as in staying in housing) requires understanding, flexibility, and acceptance. Cheers to all my friends especially Only Kat, the Williams, my parents, Christina, and Ellen for making what I love to do work for them.
