Meet Your Teacher Day

Yoooo-hhaaaahhhh! That was a student's reaction when he found out he was in my class. It automatically starts the year off great.

Some kids trickled in, slightly prodded by a parent, not-knowing what to expect. Some walked out of room 23B knowing a little more about me and our room, some walked out of room 23B dazed and confused that they were entering 3rd grade, while some walked out of room 23B with smiles plastered across their faces like it was Christmas.

19 of my 22 students came today.

Highlights:
  • The gamer chair in the Book Nook gets the boys every time. "This is so cool...I could go to sleep. Where's the wii?"
  • Me: "I do have a caveat. I may slightly brainwash your child into loving UVA."
  • From 12-7, someone wa in my room. Hugs, advice, well wishes, directions, laughs, and love were all being shared.
  • One of my fav students from last year (Mizzzzz Richarrrrdsonnnn student), started to tear-up and walk toward me as she saw me through the office window. Not gonna lie, I almost needed a Kleenex but I held it together.
  • Parent: I just want to say that you have the most underestimated and undervalued job out there. Society is so wrong. Thank you. (Those 2 words will transcend the whole entire year.)
I am so excited for another perfect batch of smart cookies.

Moral of the Story: I always forget how small the kids are when they come into my classroom. By the end of the year, they will have grown leaps and bounds physically, emotionally, academically, and socially. It is my gift to be the guide on this journey. I cherish it.

  1. In less than 36 hours I send Corena off to kindergarten. If I believed in genies and magic bottles, I'd wish for you to be her teacher. For kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd, 4th...you get where I'm going with this.

Have fun this school year! Can't wait to read about it all.
