Today, was one of those days...they happen about twice a quarter.
Today, was one of those days...that it actually runs through my head that I got a Masters in zookeeping (wild third graders, I started designating them their animal...girl in leopard print=leopard), firefighting (putting out quarrels all day..."tell me again why you tried to eat his hair, you know what never mind...what did it taste like?"), cleaning (pencil shavings, syrup on the shirt, mustard on the mouth), hazmat (cough here, touch Ms. R., cough there, pick your nose here, touch Ms. R., pick your nose there, touch Ms. R., cough on Ms. R., don't wash your hands, touch Ms. R.), technology (o no, not my smartboard...but playing 'Search Party Ms. R' to find the cell phone in the pile of 22 books bags stuffed into the 'magic wardrobe' to disable the non-stop ringing of the new Lady Gaga song), and consumerism (why is it that kids go to a book fair for 30 mins...miss instruction...and come back with the foot long bendable pencil).
So, the icing on the cake of today was that I didn't get to work out at 5:30 AM like usual since I was housesitting. Thus, I stood at the school computer exactly at 3:15 to scan out.
I went immediately home. Did not pass go. By 3:30, I hit the pavement for a nice run in the beautiful fall weather. I needed it. I truly needed it.
I was refreshed and renewed, especially after a long chat with Christina (her kids were slightly zoo-ish too, maybe more a petting zoo). Off to Chik-fil-a night, to see the kiddies where it was the parent's responsibility to keep them clean and germ free. I needed it.
Then it was off to play in a volleyball tournament at EVHS. I was on the teacher team. And, man, was it nice to be around people who didn't cry when we lost, could drink water without spilling it, and used adult language. I savored when a teammate said a cuss word. Granted we lost, but it was fun to hang out with Worth. I needed it.
Then it was time to pack for Young Life camp this weekend! I truly am excited. This weekend holds so much ahead for these kids. We're taking 60 high schoolers. Golliday. I need it just as much as they do.
Moral of the Story: My soul, nerves, and mental health were refreshed once I ran and played volleyball. I am a living example of how exercise makes more than just the body happy. I can hear the Madagascar 'move it' song in my head.
